Dragon's Song Tour 2024
Autumn 2024 will see Monmouth Male Voice Choir embark on their first tour,
the Covid epidemic scuppering the previous venture planned for Cornwall. A 4 day visit to
south Devon from 14th-18th November is scheduled, taking in concerts at St John’s
Church, Torquay (7.30pm on the14th); St David’s Church, Exeter (7.30pm on the 15th) and
Minster Church, Plymouth (7.30pm on the 16th).
Celebrating their Welsh origin, the choir have labelled the trip the Dragon’s Song Tour!
Monmouth Male Voice Choir was formed in 2012 when actor and singer, Aneirin Hughes,
together with a small group of friends, decided to ‘form a choir’. In just 12 years the choir
has grown to 70 strong and under the leadership of young, vibrant, Musical Director
Lewis Hutton, continues to flourish – in fact, in this respect it is something of an enigma,
as across the UK male voice choirs and choral music in general is declining.
Despite being a relatively new choir, members have experienced some unforgettable moments:
• London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs (Royal Albert Hall) 2014 & 2018
• Wales v Scotland 2016 and Wales v Georgia 2022 (Principality Stadium)
• National Eisteddfod 2016 (Abergavenny) & 2019 (Llanrwst)
• Welsh Remembrance Service 2016 (St David’s Hall)
• Singing extras in the film Confession Day (filmed in rural Monmouthshire 2022)
• Recording at the iconic Rockfield Studios 2022
• US Ambassador’s Reception Winfield House London 2023 & 2024

The choir proudly supports local and national charities and has recently raised funds for:
Kidney Wales
Muscular Dystrophy UK
Parkinson’s UK
Velindre Cancer Care, Cardiff
The Stroke Association
Crohn’s and Colitis UK
